The Effects of Strengthening Exercise of Postural Muscles on Gait in Persons with Hemiplegia

Abstract

|
Background and Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of strengthening exercise on the postural
muscles for patients with hemiplegia.
Subjects and Methods: Sixteen subjects with hemiplegia (mean 56.6¡¾9.9 years) were recruited. Treatment outcomes were assessed with Timed Up and Go test ad 6MWT.
Results: After a 4-week training period, the mean time of TUG decreased significantly and 16% increased in 6MWT. Retraining gait in patients with hemiplegia while to promote the activity of anti-gravity muscles was supported resulted in better walking abilities.
Conclusion: This novel approach provides efficient approach for the therapy of gait disturbance in patients with hemiplegia.
